A room filled with giant mushrooms and a set of bright green bathrooms are among the surprises inside the OMA-designed Torre at Fondazione Prada in Milan. Paraventi: Folding Screens from the 17th to 21st Centuries, curated by Nicholas Cullinan at Milan’s Fondazione Prada examines its subject starting with the questions that surround it: ‘Painting or sculpture? Art or furniture? Utilitarian or ornamental?’ Placed in Largo Isarco, in the south of Milan, the compound contracts on an overall surface of 19.000 m sq. The complex combines seven existing buildings (some of these structures hosted a distillery back in the 1910's) with three new structures. The new Structures are the Podium, Cinema, and Torre. Fondazione Prada Milan is an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art and culture. It is housed in a complex that for many years functioned as a distillery, but that has been changed by OMA – the architecture firm co-founded by Rem Koolhaas – into a collection of modern spaces.
