A new specimen of ZF arrived. QCs approved and the watch is en route to EU. This ZF is a bit better but I agree, from the QCs it looks like GF is a better choice.
After mickszym first post, I decided to get the FF Bathyscaphe Black Ceramic ZF from Trusty. The watch is great and it's working well. From head to head watch perspective in particular with the Bathyscaphe, ZF hands down has the replication better. But in the end, just because a watch is has closer specs/font to it's genuine counterpart, doesn't make it a better rep per. Regarding the dial, it has been discussed on rwi that VSF does not have a fine sunburst like gen, and is brighter in sunlight than gen. ZF and ZZF have the edge for deeper hues in sunlight, and ZF spent more time perfecting the sunburst pattern to be like gen.
I own a ZF steel version, which I picked despite originally having seriously considered the GF ceramic, as the brushing looked a bit better to me, and I enjoyed the grey sunburst of the dial more than the black of the ceramic. I’m going to approach this from the outside-in—examining both the fit and feel of the materials and construction before getting into the internals and the details. CNC came after NC which means Numerical Control. An NC machine is one which is operated by a human where the human can read numbers off the control wheels to cut parts accurately.
