I thought that the clicks were precise to each minute and were basically "locked" in place and therefore was defective.

Is your bezel set correctly to zero? Maybe it's a matter of photo angle but for me it seems that bezel pip is not centered at the 12 o'clock but rather 1-2 clicks off center which causes misalignment at the bottom.
