I’ve read dozens of comments and I’m so sad for people who have had a bad experience with PayPal and I hope it never happens to me. Consequently, I have come to the conclusion that any company transacting millions of payments a day is going to have an odd problem occasionally. It isn’t in PayPal’s financial interests to have a bad name, so I would say that they would try to resolve any issues in the future.
For the most part, it is safe (they take great security precautions) when you use it to send money. Nothing is completely risk-free – glitches and data breaches are possible anywhere. But they are a reputable company with enough security and consumer protection in place to keep you as safe as possible online. They are the largest money transaction company in the world.
Fees
PayPal charges fees for the following circumstances: When you receive money from a purchase. When you receive
payments from outside your country or region.
There is a fee when you send a payment to someone in another country or if you receive a payment from someone in another country. Usually around 2.9% of the transaction.
What are PayPal fees for $100? There is no charge if you’re a buyer. If you’re a seller and it’s a domestic sale, you get $96.80 and PayPal takes $3.20 (2.9% + $0.30).
Paying With Your Debit Card

Original review: Jan. 23, 2020I was so surprised to read so many bad reviews everywhere about Pay Pal! Honestly, for some reason, I always thought they are pretty cool. This month was really crappy because I made a purchase in a scam web store twice! I filed in two disputes which turned by myself really quickly to the claims.
The first seller didn’t want to reimburse the full price (I bought a dress for 51$ with shipping and they want to return only 17$ after I will ship them an item). After I said no to this, they didn’t want to give their return address in English. The other seller was especially ridiculous. They put lots of items on their website and after you purchase it, you’ll never get an e-mail notification, tracking number, or anything. Literally, you are just sending someone money on their PayPal buying fake stuff.
Both of these purchases were reimbursed for me with Pay Pal in full amount. Yes, I called them 3 times and the last operator whom I talked with solved that in 1 day after I was waiting almost 3 weeks. So, I am here to write that help is possible. And I’ve heard: “We are doing that to appreciate you are a Pay Pal client, ma’am.” Thank you!

Second Review
Original review: Jan. 17, 2021I ordered an item from an overseas company using PayPal. It took about 5 weeks to arrive and when it did it turns out they sent the wrong item. Tried to get a shipping label from the company to send it back and get a full refund. I got nowhere with the company so I contacted PayPal.
Sent them images of the item I ordered and the item I received and reiterated that I would send the item back if I got a shipping label. Got nowhere with PayPal either (they offered a refund of about $19 versus the $65 I paid). So I have contacted my credit card company for resolution. I used PayPal thinking they would back me up. Not so! I will be canceling my PayPal account.

Conclusion
From my many years of experience in business and as a personal buyer I have found PayPal to be no worse or better than other money transfer companies. I’ve had trouble with my own bank at times, local stores, and large corporations.
Unfortunately, it can be stressful and frustrating but then again that is life and the world we live in. You can only choose not to participate.

I love PayPal. I always use it just because it is so convenient to use rather than trying to pull your credit card number out of your head every time to try to pay something online. Now, they even offer the no internet rate payment plan for your purchase. I think just like anything else you are always susceptible to fraudulent. It is your job to check your transactions and report if someone is hacking your account.

I have been using Paypal for years and I am also surprised to find negative reviews. Their customer service is good and I think that the safe is safe. It has to be, since it deals with so many monetary transactions. I guess that glitches can happen, although it is scary to think about that …
The one thing I was not happy with were some updates Paypal did in my country of residence (Mexico). They are not always convenient and give me less control. Whenever I receive a payment, for example, Paypal transfers the money automatically to my bank account within 2 or 3 days. That is usually good, but if I want to use my Paypal account to make a purchase it is always empty. So far, my account to purchase online has been linked to my credit card. I have been unable to link my debit card. Is this only possible in certain countries?
Hi Christine, thanks for your comment. I used to transfer money into my PayPal account and then a friend said that I could link my bank account and do it straight from it on the PayPal website. I’ve done this several times now and that works great as I don’t have my funds out of my account not earning interest and I don’t have to wait 3 days to buy something. (I am in Australia, it might not be available there but have a look at linking on the PayPal site.)
