1. Create a Lead Magnet and Emails
Before you select an autoresponder company to use, you will need to decide how you will entice people to subscribe to your website. There are several ways to do this but the easiest is to give something away. An E-Book or PDF that will help your subscribers to solve a problem.
Writing a PDF may take you a few days, so schedule a time to do this before starting your journey. It doesn’t need to be fancy as long as it gives quality content in 5 – 10 pages, includes a cover with a picture. Make it attractive.
You may choose to create this in a word document so that you can polish and keep a copy. Once finished Save as a PDF and upload it to your My Google Drive for easy access to your subscribers from a link you will include in your Emails to them.
Tip # 1
Before you sign up for an autoresponder read about some little details that are important to opening an account with any autoresponder. When you join any auto responder they will ask you some basic questions like your contact email address.
Use your website email address not your personal email address as it looks more professional and if later you decide to sell your website as a going business it is easily redirected. Put your website name in the business section so that your account is registered under your website.
You will be asked for a mailing address. This will appear on the bottom of all your emails etc as legally required, so think very carefully about what you want to appear on all your correspondence if you value your privacy as it cannot be removed.
2. Your Free Aweber Account
First, you need to create an account with Aweber. Click this link to gain access to their free account for up to 500 subscribers.
3. Open Your Aweber Account Dashboard
Now that you have chosen Aweber and started an account open your email into the Dashboard. This is what you will see.
1. At the top you will see Sign Up Forms, Click on it! Then click on the Green button on the right to Create a Sign-Up Form.
2. Below is where you can create a custom field on your pop-up and choose a template to fill in your lead magnet details.
3. Below is an example of my pop-up that I created. Follow the steps at the bottom of each page until you are ready to publish.
5. Time to create the emails that you will send out after someone subscribes. You will be able to drag and drop them into your new campaign.
6. Click on Messages. First, click on Create a Message and use the Drag and Drop email builder. When you have designed your three emails to send out on auto to your new subscribers then click on Messages and go to Campaigns.
7. Aweber has a terrific drag and drop flowchart that you can create to deliver your emails after a new subscriber has confirmed their email address. Start by dragging the ‘Send a message ‘, then drag ‘Wait’ to below the email (set it to whatever time you think) then add another ‘Send a message ‘ and then another ‘Wait’ ….. and so on until you have a nice sequence of emails going out over a week to your new subscribers.
8. Below is a basic flowchart for email delivery after a subscriber has confirmed their email address.
9. You can click on Messages and then Campaigns to look at your active campaign. If you click on Active and then on Messages on the right you can click on each email if you want to edit any of them in the future.
Now you are ready, you have a pop-up on your website to offer a lead magnet so people will subscribe. Once they have confirmed their email address they will then receive your emails with the link to their free gift and encouragement from you.
Making the Most of Collecting Email Addresses
Now with Aweber set up on your website, there will be time for you to consider other ways to collect new subscribers. You could create a separate landing page that you promote on Pinterest or Facebook. You can add a link to your Canva pictures that sends them not to your website but to your subscription landing page.
The Money is in the List
Setting up an autoresponder can take some time depending on how quickly you can create your lead magnet and write drafts for the 3 emails that you should schedule as a basic setup.
