Does Bluehost Charge You Monthly or All at Once?

Bluehost hosting has a one-year minimum term for new accounts. After that year, you’ll be able to pay monthly. Hostgator, a great web hosting company, is available if hosting is not possible upfront. They will charge monthly as do Wealthy Affiliate.

In case you don’t know them, they have great hosting. Hostgator has an exclusive promo code for you that will give you hosting discounts up to 60%, depending on what plan you choose. Hostgator will provide you with 20% off your first month when you sign up month-to-month.

Bluehost allows you to get hosting as low as $2.95/month for a 36-month package. You must purchase hosting annually, as they don’t offer monthly hosting for new clients.

Bluehost gets asked a lot online about whether they charge monthly or all at one time. It lets you pay monthly after the first 12 months. Bluehost doesn’t charge monthly for hosting plans in the first year. But if you are serious about building a website business that time will fly.

Hostgator is more expensive than Bluehost monthly if you choose to pay for it. Bluehost is cheaper if you’re looking to save money for the long term.

Bluehost provides a 30-day money-back promise. You may cancel your payment at any time and get a complete refund.

You should consider Bluehost if you’re looking to save. Hostgator may cost you as high as $10.95 per month after the 60% off.

Is Bluehost Package Extras Worth it?

Bluehost’s extras include Domain Privacy + Security, Codeguard Basic, Single Domain SSL, Bluehost SEO Tool Start., Security Essential, and Microsoft 365 Mailbox Sitelock.

The big question is, which Bluehost additional add-ons will you use?

Let’s get into the details of each Bluehost package add-ons so that you are familiar with what each one is and whether you require it.

  • Sitelock Security-Essentials

Bluehost Sitelock Safety-Essentials provides a third-party service to protect your site against malware and other malicious attacks.

SiteLock Security-Essential provides:

  • Limited malware detection
  • Checking 5-10 pages on your site
  • Monitoring by the service of Google Blacklist

* What’s my Recommendation? No, this Bluehost add-on isn’t necessary. This add-on wouldn’t be a good deal. WordPress plugins are available for free that can help you secure and scan your site. Wordfence, a popular WordPress security plugin, is free to do these tasks.

Domain Privacy + SecurityBluehost hosting and security

The WHOIS Database is the name of the public database. Bluehost will add every registered domain name to the WHOIS database.

With Bluehost’s extra domain privacy + protection package will ensure your data is secure and private.

Bluehost Domain Privacy Protect is an add-on that keeps your data private and secure from the public.

Bluehost will, instead of giving your personal information to the WHOIS database, include their default contact information. That gives you privacy, protection, and safety from spammers, telemarketers, and others obtaining your data.

After registering a new domain, you will often receive lots of spam and telemarketing messages and calls. Companies will access the WHOIS Database for public information to sell you their product and service. It is something that I have experienced firsthand.

Bluehost and any other company that offers domains will add personal information to a public file that anyone can view, including your email address, contact name, phone number, and address.

* My Recommendation: I strongly recommend adding the Domain Privacy + Protection add-on to your order. This add-on is mandatory for every domain you purchase. It will ensure that your personal information is safe and secure. Bluehost’s default contact information is displayed instead.

Domain Privacy with Bluehost will cost you $11.88 a year extra, under $1 a month!

Bluehost SEO Tools Start

Bluehost SEO Tools includes a keyword search tool. That will ensure that you have the right keywords to target. Are you sure that you don’t need this Bluehost extra add-on?

Bluehost SEO Tools Start allows you to submit your site for search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. The tool will generate a detailed report that will guide you in taking action to make your site rank higher.

* My Recommendation: No, you do not need Bluehost SEO Tools Start.  Save your money.

Here’s the reason:

WordPress comes with free SEO plugins like Yoast SEO, RankMath, and others to help you do your SEO. These plugins create XML sitemaps that tell search engines which pages to crawl and where to locate them.

You can submit your website to search engines for free. Google Search Console is free, and I highly recommend it. You can submit pages or posts for crawling. It will notify you of any errors found on your site while they were crawling it.

Google Search Console also shows you the keywords that people are using to find a page. It will reveal what keywords people are searching for to help them improve their site and write content targeted at those keywords.

Codeguard Basic

Bluehost Codeguard basic’s backup will create a daily backup of the website. It saves each backup separately so that, if necessary, you can use the one-click restore option to get back to any backup version you may have.

As you never know when something might occur, I recommend that you have something to back up your site.

Bluehost Codeguard Essential Add-on automatically provides website backups. It also offers a one-click site restore option that can restore your site to any previous backup you have chosen with a single click.

One reason to keep a backup website is if you make a mistake while editing the site and cannot get it back to its original state or if hackers attack your site.

You can restore your site from backups without worrying by selecting the most recent backup before the change takes effect.

There are a few plugins free of charge if you use WordPress to create your website. You can’t use the one-click restoration, so you will need to restore your site using the backup manually.

Here are the best-rated WordPress backup tools:

  • BackWPup
  • UpdraftPlus

* My Recommendation: While the Bluehost extra package is not required, it can make your life easier if you don’t need to upload the backup file manually. Bluehost extras can be worth it for some because you can restore your site to a previous backup by clicking a button.

SSL for One DomainNumber one in Bluehost domains

A Single Domain SSL includes a dedicated IP. That is an internet address that is only available to one hosting account. A Dedicated IP will ensure that no one shares your IP address with other people.

Bluehost recommends an SSL Certificate for your site as you can use it to rank with Google and other search engines. Google Chrome browser can make it even more difficult to access your site. A popup will appear in red, indicating that it is not secure.

Single Domain SSL protects your site as well as your visitors. An SSL Certificate protects customer information on your websites, such as credit card details, username, password, and other sensitive information.

When you access a website, you’ll notice a padlock symbol in your web browser. That signifies that your site is protected and encrypted using an SSL Certificate.

Are you sure that this Bluehost add-on is essential?

* My recommendation is that you do not need the Single Domain SSL package. I suggest you save money on this one.

Your website won’t be issued an SSL certificate. The most common reason that a Positive SSL certificate is not required is that the owner doesn’t want to pay for it. Single Domain SSL may be worth your while if you have a significant income. I recommend you get the free one first and then upgrade to the paid version as you need it.

Bluehost offers a Shared SSL certificate for no cost. You can use it in your Bluehost dashboard immediately after signing up. The Shared SSL Certificate allows you to share an SSL Certificate with multiple sites using the same IP address.

Microsoft 365 Mailbox

An add-on to Microsoft Powers that offers email essentials.

It provides a brand-named email that ends with your domain name. A reliable and secure email platform that you can trust. It also gives you 24/7 access to your emails and calendars from any device. There is 24/7 technical support.

* My recommendation: The Microsoft 365 Mailbox add-on is not required. I suggest you save your money.

This is why: With Bluehost, you get free email accounts with your domain name. You can easily set up these accounts using Gmail, Apple Mail, and any other email service you use. They are also highly secure. After the 30-day free trial, you will start to pay $2.99 per month for this.

Now we’ve covered all Bluehost package add-ons. That should give you a solid understanding of the Bluehost package add-os and what to do if you have any.

Is Bluehost Package Extras Worth It?

Bluehost’s Domain Privacy + Security package is worth the extra. Codeguard Basic may be worth purchasing. Bluehost SEO Tools Start, Single Domain SSL, and Microsoft 365 Mailbox are optional, but they can be worth it.

The add ons all depend on your needs with your website and if you look at the features included chart you will be able to see what is included in each monthly package once you have decided.

Bluehost: The Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Bluehost’s intuitive and step-by-step guide makes it easy to set up your site quickly. It is easy to use for beginners. Bluehost doesn’t require any coding or web management skills to set up your website. They have partnered with WordPress to make installing WordPress easy.
  • 24/7 customer service: A company can rarely offer 24/7 customer support at such a low price. Bluehost customer support is available to you from the moment you launch your site until you are ready to troubleshoot any site issues that may arise.

Cons:

  • Bluehost plans are not the best for high-traffic sites. If you want to scale a website with high traffic and require hosting to support those needs, an entry-level Bluehost plan won’t cut it. There are options to upgrade to the more expensive managed WordPress tiers.

  1. Howdy Lily! I’ve actually used Bluehost in the past. I used them to host my first ever website – which was a bust, but necessary experience for me to advance in the realm of online entrepreneurship. Today I’m using the Wealthy Affiliate hosting service which you mention in your review. I have a question for you. Do you know how Bluehost’s Pro Plan compares to Wealthy Affiiliates premium member plan?

    Thanks for the review.

    • Hi Erick, I would think that you would be better able to tell me but I feel that Bluehost is looking at features to build your website especially for WooCommerce whereas Wealthy Affiliate is looking at advanced training for entrepreneurs who want to scale up. It’s impossible to compare them as they both provide the basic needs of hosting and running a blog but with added features in different areas. It really comes down to what you are looking for.

  2. Thanks for the review of Bluehost web hosting and some of the features one will get with any package plan. I have been pondering the idea of online business and web hosting. While reading your article, I found myself getting a better idea as to what is possible. I am with a wealthy affiliate and still have not gotten to understand why I have 25 Domains. Will it be possible to lease my domains at a smaller fee for monthly purposes? Your review was an eye-opener to me and happy I had an opportunity to read your information.

    • You seem to be understanding the online world very quickly Moeng. You could use the domains for other people but mainly it’s a marketing plow and of course, you may wish to create more websites in the future. There is a lot of work that goes into even one website but they will always be there for you to use some time.

  3. Wonderful Review! Bluehost is a great money saver for bloggers on a budget. Lots of plans to choose from and features to check out. The information you provided, definitely makes Bluehost a can’t miss choice. I haven’t used Bluehost yet, but I am willing to give Bluehost a try on my future websites.

    • That is great to hear Terence. I also wish I had known the difference between a purely hosting website and one where you can get masses of training and support. I have websites with Bluehost and with Wealthy Affiliate as they each fill the needs of that business.
