Who is Media.Net?
They are a contextual advertising network. What this means is that the ads they place on your website are based around the text in your posts, so they are not just random ads but specific to your blog and your market.
Media.Net was founded by Divyank Turakhia who is an Indian-born computer programmer, he created the company in 2010 and sold it in 2016 to Miteno a Chinese-based company. It is considered the second largest contextual advertising company in the world. It has its headquarters in New York. Powered by Bing and Yahoo and reaching about 1 million users in the US.
What Does Media.Net Do?
Media.Net is an intermediary between advertisers who want to find quality websites to place their ads on and owners/publishers who have quality websites. They pay the blog owner for each impression received from their advertisements. It assesses your website to see what niche you are writing in and place appropriate ads, e.g. if you run a computer review website, they will place computer ads on your website, etc.
How Much Can I Earn With Media.Net?
- This all comes down to how much traffic you get to your website daily.
- What particular niche you are in
- Your ad layout
- Demographics and geographical traffic location
Keep all of these points in mind as you prepare your website for placing ads.
A good example is if 1000 people see (impression) an ad on your website you would receive about $5 US. The general payout per view is around $1 and it is amazing how quickly that adds up to a nice regular monthly income.
Contextual Ads
Target your ad strategy for your visitors
Based on their specially designed proprietary ad format, contextual ads open up advertising search budgets worth billions of dollars. This format filters the user’s intent via relevant search keywords, resulting in finely targeted ads and much higher revenues as advertisers are willing to pay more for visitors who have qualified themselves.
This moves away from the hit-and-miss process that has been used in the past, where you would be seeing advertisements for clothing on a computer website. Media.Net has technology in place to place the right ads in front of people looking for that product.
Media.Net has created strong relationships with DSPs, Agency Trading Desks, Horizontal Networks, Vertical Networks, Performance Networks, AMPs, DMPs, etc. They make it easy to access high-quality display ads by connecting with all the major buyer networks.
Native Ads
Prioritize your user experience.
Tap into ever-increasing native budgets with Media.net’s native ads. They are completely customized to the look and feel of your pages for higher user engagement. You also have the option to drive your audience to contextually relevant articles on your site through the native unit.
What is the Big Difference Between Media.Net and AdSense
If you are new to all this getting paid with advertisements on your website then you need to know the major difference between these two giants.
- Media.Net pays you by CPM (Cost Per Mile) these are impressions or people seeing the ads on your website. They pay you for every 1000 page views which could be 3000 impressions of the ads based on 3 ads per page, $12 for the day!
- AdSense pays you for CPC (Cost Per Click) you are only paid when someone clicks on an advertisement. You can read more about AdSense in my review here.
How Hard is It to Get Approval for Media.Net?
Some people think it is hard to get approval but you only really need to meet their criteria.
- Website Traffic – At the moment they don’t have a minimum traffic requirement but you need to be generating quality traffic from the USA, UK, and Canada.
- If your website is still pretty new and you are only getting a trickle of daily traffic then it is best to wait a while before applying. Set up an autoresponder like Aweber which can help you collect your email subscribers and improve sales. Some great ones are GetResponse and MailerLite.
- Spend time on Social Media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc to attract more traffic on a daily basis then apply when you are getting 500 to 1000 page views per day.
- Media.Net will assess the quality and quantity of your weekly posts to your website. You need to be posting regularly. If you are just putting badly written or stolen content on your website to make money then you won’t be accepted into Media.Net
- It must an English-written website. Observing correct grammar and syntax for quality, easy-to-read content.
- When applying you must not have a competing ad network on your website. You can turn off AdSense for a few days.
- It is against their rules to show or be doing anything illegal on your website.
Payment by Media.Net
Once you have earned $100 US they will either send it by wire (direct to your account) or by PayPal depending on what you have set up with them.

I tried implementing the ads, but apparently you need to set up the ads.txt file, and this was where I was stuck. I tried to find out from their side but no reply. I subsequently deleted the ads from my site. If you could give me some pointers as to how to get this ads.txt thing to work I would very much appreciate it.
This can be a problem especially your first time. You should have been allocated someone to help you from the company. Do You remember who it was and can you contact them personally? As they could really help you with this but barring that contact the Tech guys here at Wealthy Affiliate and I’m sure if you ask nicely they will help you.
This company looks interesting to me. Thanks for sharing such a good opportunity for all new WA members. Without good traffic to our website, They also cannot help us.
I like their payment based on impressions, it is more fair to website owners. For this company to display 3 Ads at our website, we have to bring down our Ad banners to facilitate them. If not, it will be not fair to them.
At present my website still in the range of 400 to 450, and other condition like consistent posting per week and post SEO score is all score 100 points, should not be a problem to get approval from them. I explore further on how people look at them and at the same time push up my traffic above 500 before I can join them.
How about your relationship with them? Or you just helped to recommend this company for encouraging more people to start an online business. Thank you for your directive how to earn extra profit. I have ticked a like for your post.
Hi Stephen, thanks for your great comment. It sounds like you really understood how to access this company and what it can do for you. I have a friend who has been with them for over 12 months and he has nothing but praise for the quality of their ads and the help that they have given to him. I’m still building traffic to my website before I apply but I can really see the income potential as you do.
Let me know how you go when you join them.
Thank you for sharing this, although I have never applied to Media net as I heard that you have to be getting 1000 visitors to your blog a day to be approved. I have been using Adsense, and am quite happy with what I am earning from them, but I hear of people getting banned from them from time to time which scares me. So I will definitely try Media Net once I know for sure one of my blogs is getting a lot of daily visitors.
That is good to hear Michel. Like yourself, it does concern me a lot that you hear of sudden banning from AdSense and other of these ad platforms but it doesn’t seem to happen too often. Perhaps worth having two in the future and other cash flow links just in case. Never best to have all your eggs in one basket.
Remember to pause the ads from AdSense for a few days when you apply to Media.Net
I really like that Media Net looks at the content of your website and place the advertisements according to that, and not just random ads that has nothing to do with your content. It is far better to be paid for impressions and not just if somebody actually clicks on an ad.. Currently my website is still new and not generating enough traffic, but I will certainly apply as soon as I can.
That sounds like a good decision Line. At least you know that it is available for when you are getting enough traffic. Wishing you great success.
Wow, MediaNet sounds so interesting! I have been wanting to set up adsense on my website but have decided to wait out a little longer. Good thing I did, because now I have another option here! Thanks to your in-depth explanation on the company and what they do, I really am intrigued to try this out as they pay by impressions rather than clicks! That sure is impressive. Another thing that I love so far, is that they put ads that go alongside the niche of the website, this gives people a higher relevancy rate which means the possibility of them clicking into the ads will be higher! It is a win win situation.
I do have a question, by putting ads onto our website, will it affect the website’s SEO ranks? Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to seeing more of this awesome content! Till then, stay safe and keep up the good work.
Hi Joey, I’m delighted that you have come across my article as it looks like the timing was perfect. Yes, Media.Net is a good option for placing ads on your website, much more considerate. No, it won’t affect your SEO ranks as long as it doesn’t slow your loading speed down which I seriously doubt that it would or the company would go out of business.
